Re: Grand Jury Hands Up Indictments in Chapman Ave Homicide and State Street Shooting from July 26, 2025
Auburn, NY- District Attorney Brittany Grome Antonacci announced today that the Cayuga
County Grand Jury voted indictments against Davon Dixon and Leon Shorter for their roles in
two separate shootings in the City of Auburn from July 26, 2025.
DAVON DIXON, 35, of Brooklyn, New York, was indicted by a Cayuga County Grand Jury
on one count of Murder in the Second Degree, a Class A-I Felony and one count of Criminal
Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, Class C Armed Violent Felony, for his
involvement in the homicide that occurred in the area of Chapman Avenue in the City of Auburn on July 26th. The indictment alleges that DIXON, with intent to cause the death of another, caused the death of the victim when he fired multiple shots from a loaded firearm. DIXON was immediately taken into custody by members of the Auburn Police Department GIVE Unit. DIXON faces a maximum aggregate prison sentence of 40 years to life in prison. He remains remanded to the Cayuga County Jail without bail pending
arraignment before County Court at a date to be determined.
LEON SHORTER, 55, of Syracuse, New York, was indicted by a Cayuga County Grand Jury on
two counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, Class C Armed Violent
Felonies, following a call for shots fired in the area of State Street and Perrine Street in the City of Auburn. The indictment alleges that SHORTER knowingly possessed a loaded and operable
handgun. SHORTER is not allowed to legally possess a firearm in the State of New York. SHORTER was taken into custody following an investigation by members of the Auburn Police
Department and remanded to the custody of the Cayuga County Jail pending arraignment
before County Court at a date to be determined. SHORTER faces 15 years of imprisonment on the
firearm charges if convicted after trial. Additional charges related to the shooting are being
reviewed by the Auburn Police Department and the District Attorney’s Office.

All charged individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
