Auburn Woman Pleads Guilty to Knife Point Robbery and Burglary

Auburn, NY- Acting District Attorney Brittany Grome Antonacci announced that ARIEL BOWMAN, 24, of Auburn, New York, pled guilty to one count of Robbery in the First Degree, in violation of Penal Law Section 160.15[3], a Class B Armed Violent Felony, and one count of Burglary in the Third Degree, a Class D Felony, in violation of Penal Law Section 140.20, arising out of two separate arrests on August 20, 2022 and August 4, 2022 respectively.

As alleged in the indictment, BOWMAN admitted to stealing property from the victim at knifepoint on August 20, 2022. She stole approximately $230 in United States currency, the victim’s debit card, cell phone and sunglasses. BOWMAN was immediately located by members of the Auburn Police Department and the New York State Police in the City of Auburn and found to be in possession of the victim’s stolen property and several knives. BOWMAN faces 7 years determinate and 5 years of post-release supervision.

BOWMAN also admitted to unlawfully entering Kinney Drug Store in the City of Auburn on August 4, 2022 and stealing $122.58 worth of merchandise. She had been previously banned from all Kinney Drug Stores. She faces an indeterminate term of 2 1/3-7 years of incarceration.

Prior to her arrests for armed robbery, BOWMAN had been arrested seven times before she was arrested on a bail qualifying offense.  BOWMAN was arrested on July 11, 2022 for Falsely Reporting an Incident (misdemeanor); August 5, 2022 for Petit Larceny and Resisting Arrest (misdemeanors); August 6, 2022 for Criminal Solicitation and Grand Larceny; August 7, 2022 for Criminal Mischief in the Fourth Degree (misdemeanor); August 8, 2022 for Menacing in the Second Degree and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Fourth Degree (misdemeanors); August 9, 2022 for Petit Larceny (misdemeanor); and August 16, 2022 for Criminal Contempt in the Second Degree. Defendant was either given appearance tickets or released on all charges due to bail reform. Despite a request for bail by the District Attorney’s Office on her August 16, 2022 arrest for Criminal Contempt, she was again released. BOWMAN was finally remanded with no bail when following her arrest for Robbery in the First Degree.

BOWMAN faces a 7-year determinate term of incarceration, followed by 5 years of post-release supervision on the Robbery conviction and 2 1/3-7 years indeterminate on the Burglary conviction.  She is scheduled to be sentenced before the Honorable Thomas G. Leone on February 9, 2023. She remains remanded to the custody of the Cayuga County Jail without bail pending sentencing.
